Small Paintings on Paper
I had been painting a series of large paintings which were slow moving, so I wanted to do something in a different way. These paintings came from a personal challenge to make small works on paper in a single session; only it didn’t work out exactly as planned as it never does. Many of the works were done in 2, 3, or 4, or even 5 sessions.
Large painting takes a lot of time and focus. In doing these small works, I was interested in working faster and freer.
This series (and for this website, called Small Paintings I, II, and III) were done on hand cut paper. They are done using acrylic paints, beeswax crayon, pencil. and pen. They are all roughly 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Titles are simple and were given after the paintings were done as simple reference points.
